Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs)

Why prioritize IENs?

In March 2024, the BC government announced $68.1 million in one-time funding for training and licensing investments that will include internationally educated nurse (IEN) bridging programs and other key investments in nurse training and opportunities across BC.

Our system can seem complex, and many changes have occurred in the last 24 months.

Thinking about access to education

Access to affordable and timely education is crucial for nurses returning to practice after an assessment. Unfortunately, very few programs available in British Columbia can help fill this gap. These programs could include bridging programs or return-to-nursing programs. Our team is working hard to find ways to address this gap, especially for those living in northern BC. Our goal is to create or use existing programs and pathways to support IEN careers and help ensure success for nurses in this region.
