On May 8–9, 2024, we ran a workshop to complete the HRI grant, open the Michael Smith Grant, and set out three priorities for the rest of 2024.
Workshop Summary
- May 8th (6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.) and 9th (8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.), 2024
- Downtown Prince George; Wood Innovation & Design Centre
- Facilitated by Caroline Sanders, Carolee Clyne, Madison Friesen, and Danielle Haggarty
- Attendees included individuals from UNBC, NH, PHSA, BCNU, BCCNM, NCAS/IGA, CNC, CMC, NLC, and honorary IENS
Over two days, our workshop delved into insights from listening to Northern BC Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs). The event was packed with interactive activities, keynote speeches, storytelling sessions, and collaborative problem-solving exercises. Attendees actively participated in creating new relationships, sharing personal and professional experiences, brainstorming solutions to barriers faced by IENs, proposing solutions, and prioritizing actionable ideas. The positive participant feedback, the sense of community it created, the emphasis on collaboration, and the foundation it laid for ongoing support for IENs in BC all contributed to the workshop’s success.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Elder Lucy Duncan for her invaluable presence and support on both days. Thanks to Hazel Piano (IEN/BCNU) Mosaic of Colour Caucus for Northern BC for her emotional, informative, and uplifting keynote speech. To all the workshop participants, your open-minded participation and trust have been instrumental in the success of this event. We also acknowledge those who could not attend but have expressed their support for the ongoing efforts and planned group work. And lastly, we express our profound gratitude to the Health Research Institute 2023 SEED grant for their crucial funding, without which this work would not have been possible.
